NSERC STRATEGY FOR PARTNERSHIP & INNOVATION

The new NSERC Strategy for Partnerships and Innovation was recently launched. Herebelow are the links to the three different NSERC programs that relate to the new Strategy:
1)     Interaction Grants (IG) can be used to facilitate meetings between university faculty and companies interested in R&D collaboration (see http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Professors-Professeurs/RPP-PP/Interaction-Interaction_eng.asp);
 2)   Engage Grants (EG) can be used to initiate new R&D collaborations between university faculty and companies (see http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Professors-Professeurs/RPP-PP/Engage-Engagement_eng.asp); and
3)   NSERC-Atlantic Regional Opportunities Fund (ROF) can be used to support events and activities (e.g. small workshops) that encourage the development of R&D collaborations between companies and faculty in Atlantic universities (see attached).

Interaction Grants and Engage Grants are initially being rolled out as pilot programs and we would like to encourage broad participation from all Atlantic universities, as well as from all universities across the country. In support of this objective, NSERC-Atlantic is encouraging each eligible Atlantic university to submit one strong initial application for each program via its UILO by January 31, 2010. We will give these initial applications priority attention in order to facilitate the objective of having all regional universities submit a first proposal to each of these two programs. After January 31, we will review additional applications received. We encourage applications to these programs as there may be some flexibility to fund additional applications, and we anticipate that the programs will continue beyond April 1, 2010 (2010-2011).

To discuss these pilot programs the contacts are  at the end of the message.

As of February 15, 2010, NSERC  will be able to consider additional and/or multiple applications from universities. Please contact the ILI Office and the Research Services Office to obtain approval and signatures prior to submitting the application online to NSERC. Here is the message from NSERC:

"If you are aware of additional Engage project ideas or potential applications that could be submitted to NSERC, we fully encourage these as we may be able to fund them before March 31. Also, we will soon be able to consider Engage grant applications for the next fiscal year, which will begin on April 1, 2010. These can be submitted anytime through the NSERC On-line System.   T
here is significant room for additional Interaction grant applications and awards. We encourage researchers who are interested in developing new R&D collaborations with industry to apply for these awards".
